Uralla Library - Artist of the Month

Hanging in the library entrance space each month

Dec / Jan - Richard Curtis

After art college training in the UK, I emigrated to Australia and worked as a graphic designer and illustrator, initially at the Australian National University, and subsequently in the private sector. I took up oil painting after retirement, but my design experience still shows in much of the artwork in this selection, which includes both early and later works. Inspiration for my work comes mostly from the natural world and is clearly demonstrated in these paintings.

I have handcrafted most of the picture frames from repurposed demolition timber, and finished them with a coat of liming wax and/or beeswax – a natural finish which suits the character of the reclaimed timber.
